Gerald Eugene (Gene) Young, 65 passed away Monday, May 22, 2017 at St Mary’s Hospital in Reno, NV.

Gene was born October 4,1951 at Mather AFB in Sacramento, CA. to Betty and Robert Young. He attended schools in the Sacramento and surrounding areas. He graduated from Casa Roble High School in 1969 and attended Sierra College in Loomis, CA.

Always a fan of rodeo, he decided bareback broncs was where his passion was. He moved to Wyoming, worked in the oil fields, uranium and coal mines and pursued his love of rodeo competition. Sadly, after several years of following his dream, a serious injury made a life style change necessary. In order to stay active with the rodeo scene, he decided to try his hand at rodeo photography. In 1980, after returning to California, he decided to add horse show photography to his  endeavors and found his true talent. After years of being one of the leading horse show photographers on the west coast, he put down his cameras and started showing halter horses, and once again, showed how talented he was, earning national awards on every horse he showed.

Gene served with the US Air Force as a outside wire and antenna installation and maintenance specialist. Worked with Folsom School district in CA. for 14 years, and Churchill County Facilities Maintenance department for 8 years He also served as a Parks and Recreation Commissioner.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lindsay Scott Young; father, Robert E. Young; sister, Cheryl Smith and step-father, Wilmer (Smokey) Rau.

Gene is survived by his wife and soul mate of 36 Years, Sandi Young and mother, Betty Young-Rau, both of Fallon; extended family, Robert (Joan) Hamilton of CA.; their daughters, Lori (Don) Spence of OR.; Linda (Don) Revelino of CA., and their children as well as many, many loving and caring friends.

A Celebration of Gene’s life will be held at The Gardens Chapel June 10, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Please come and share your memories and good times spent with Gene with his family and friends.
