Windy: The probability is that the high winds which pester us nowadays will not abate much while there is so much snow on the mountains to create cool air for the filling made by hot air on the plains to the eastward. Philosophy, my boy!

The shake: Yesterday morning at quarter of three o’clock exactly a strong shock of earthquake passed through Nevada and was especially pronounced in this city. Within five minutes of the shock the streets were filled with people, some badly frightened, some considerably amused and all chattering volubly over the occurrence. Dozens of buildings all over the city are slightly cracked.

Last Friday morning Gov. Boyle received a letter by special delivery from the Nevada United Industries, John J. Donnelly, secretary, requesting all places selling liquor throughout the state be closed on June 5, Registration Day. The governor complied. (Selective Service Act of 1917)

Starting July 1 no well drilling contractor shall drill for water in Nevada without first obtaining a well-drilling license form the state engineer.

“Old No. 5” is coming home. For the past two and a half years, the six-ton coin press which 70 years ago turn out those famous and now precious “CC” silver dollars has been turning out coins at the Denver Mint to help relieve a coin shortage.
