Grant offered to support education, training and health care in Nevada

The Rural Utilities Service of USDA Rural Development is accepting applications through July 17 for its Distance Learning Telemedicine grant.

A workshop on the program is planned from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. June 20 at the Nevada State Office in Carson City, 1390 S. Curry St.

State and local governments, federally recognized tribes, nonprofits, and for-profit businesses are eligible. Projects must be located in communities with populations of 20,000 or less.

Projects should be designed to provide access to education, training and/or health care resources for rural Americans. Funding must be used for telecommunications-enabled information, audio and visual equipment, and advanced technologies that extend educational and medical applications into rural areas. Grants have been awarded to Renown Medical Center, Nevada System of Higher Education and the Yerington and Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.
