Carson City music series to continue with The Novelists

An elderly couple stands precariously on the railing of a 17-floor balcony. Two teenagers unknowingly choose a murder scene for their parking date. A young man throws off the shackles of a bullish culture.

These are just a sample of the scenes in which you’ll find yourself immersed when you listen to The Novelists.

The four-member pop and folk band from Reno is the next to play in the Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series.

With an emphasis on storytelling and four-part harmonies, The Novelists will appear in a free outdoor performance at 7 p.m. July 1.

Members are Joel Ackerson on vocals, guitar and mandolin; Eric Andersen on vocals and piano; Zack Teran on vocals and upright and electric bass; and Justin Kruger on vocals and drums.

The group has become a mainstay on the West Coast festival, college and house concert circuits and are planning several national tours through this year.

Members have shared the stage with Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, John Prine and Daryl Stuermer of Genesis.

The music series is in its second year of bringing free live music to the capital city.

The music takes place Saturdays through summer at the Minnesota Street Stage in downtown Carson City.

Next in the series is Guitar Shorty, who’s credited with inspiring Jimi Hendrix and Buddy Guy, on July 8.

Also scheduled to perform is Gene Evaro Jr. July 15; La Misa Negra on July 22; Southern Drawl Band on July 29; Thee Commons on Aug. 5; Marla Brown on Aug. 12; The Dusty Green Bones Band on Aug. 26 and The Young Dubliners on Sept. 2.

Besides the free music, food vendors will be on site as well as wine and beer, children’s activities and space to dance.
