A juvenile was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday night near the Pioneer Crossing on U.S. Highway 50 Alternate.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said the collision between the vehicle and pedestrian occurred at about 6:14 p.m. The NHP’s preliminary investigation reveals a white 2013 Chrysler Town and Country minivan was traveling westbound when it struck the pedestrian in the roadway.

The pedestrian was transported to a Reno hospital where he died from his injuries. The NHP said the cause and details of the collision are still under investigation. Both the NHP and Lyon County Sheriff’s Office are working together on this investigation. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved in this incident.
