Man named suspect in death of Carson City toddler

Carson City deputies have named Eric Buhl a suspect in the death of a 2 1/2 year old Carson City toddler.

The child, identified by the Carson City Sheriff's Office as  Coahuyana Hernandez, died Thursday after deputies and first responders recieved a call of unresponsive infant that had fallen.  At arrival, the child was being administered CPR by Buhl.  Fire/Paramedic crews treated the patient and rushed her to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Sheriff’s Detectives completed searches of a residence at Yukon Court and released it back to the residents early Saturday afternoon.  An autopsy was performed on Saturday, and the findings of the Medical Examiner are pending.

 While searching for information on Friday evening, detectives located a live “pipe bomb” in the Manzanita Terrace bedroom of Buhl, 26.

Buhl told deputies that the bomb was live, resulting in the Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad being called to disable the bomb. The bomb was disabled at 12:50 a.m. Saturday, according to a press release from the Carson City Sheriff's Office. The findings resulted in the arrest of Buhl on suspicion of felony possession of an explosive device, and child endangerment.  His bail was set at $5,000 Saturday morning.

On Saturday night, Sheriff Ken Furlong released a statement saying Buhl was the suspect in the death of Hernandez and bail had been increased to $250,000 as the investigation continues.
