Colon cancer screenings save lives

The second leading cause of death in the U.S. is colon cancer. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately 140,000 people are diagnosed every year, resulting in more than 50,000 deaths.

In Nevada, colon cancer was the fourth most commonly reported cancer. Which is ironic, because it is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers if caught early in screening.

Colon cancer does not discriminate — it affects men and women of all racial and ethnic groups and is most often found in people ages 50 and older.

With the cancer starting as a polyp, screening is instrumental in finding non-cancerous polyps before they become cancerous.

The Nevada Colon Cancer Partnership points out that celebrating March as Colon Cancer Awareness Month means “no if, and, or butts” for a little prep and screening to save a life — your life!

The organization is dedicated to bringing together community Partners to provide exceptional early detection screening for Northern Nevadans.
