TOCCATA to perform Bach’s St. Matthew Passion in Carson City

TOCCATA – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus – is putting on its 12th annual presentation of Bach’s masterpiece, St. Matthew Passion.

The program, sung in English, covers Jesus’ arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane to his placement in the tomb. The text follows the Gospel according to Matthew.

Maestro James Rawie will conduct all performances.

A dress rehearsal, with no admission charge, will be at 2 p.m. April 8 at Shepherd of the Sierra Lutheran Church, 3680 Highway 395 in Carson City.

The first of the three concert series will take place on Palm Sunday, April 9, at 3:30 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 100 Bishop Manogue Drive in Reno.

The program will be repeated at 7 p.m. April 11 at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., in South Lake Tahoe.

The final concert will be on Good Friday, April 14, at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, 341 Village Blvd. in Incline Village. A slide show will accompany the Good Friday concert.

General admission is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $5 for students aged 19-23 with valid ID. Preferred seating is $35 and $15 for youth/students. Youth under 19 are admitted free in non-reserved seating. Cash or checks are accepted; no credit cards.
