Empire Elementary School was evacuated Monday afternoon following a bomb threat at the school.

The threat came in the late afternoon, when the school was only occupied by teachers and students in the after school program, officials said. A teacher received a phone call on the classroom line that started “We are going to bomb you.”

The students and teachers were immediately evacuated to Terrace Park as the Carson City Sheriff’s Office investigated, said district public information officer Dan Davis.

“We took precautions to make sure our students and staff were safe,” Davis said.

Officials said they believe the threat was a hoax after tracing the call back to an automated system. The number that the call was traced back to is associated with harassing and illegal activity, according to phone records.

A notice was issued to parents Monday afternoon via email, and no threat is suspected at this time.

School is to resume as usual Tuesday.
