The Popcorn Stand: This sale in the mold of what’s silly

Those who choose to read this Popcorn Stand know my weird obsession with food-look-alikes and how much they cost. A while back I wrote about how a cheeto that looked like Harambe the gorilla was supposedly sold for like $100,000, which I still don’t believe. Elvis maybe, but not Harambe.

Anyway the latest overpriced food-look-alike is a moldy tuna sandwich in which the mold sprouted looks like Mickey Mouse. A seller called reckoner-yorke has posted this sandwich on eBay and is asking for $30,000. Again, mold in the shape of Elvis, maybe. But mold in the shape of Mickey Mouse, I don’t think would ever command $30,000.

I’ve seen the sandwich and it has sprouted the spittin’ image of Mickey Mouse. And the seller does say half the proceeds from the sale will go to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

And the seller has said he placed the sandwich up for sale as a joke, so the listing price of $30,000 I assume is pretty much a joke as well. But who knows, maybe somebody will pay $30,000 for the sandwich.

I was never much of a fan of Mickey Mouse. Now Winnie-the-Pooh and you’ve got something. I love Winnie-the-Pooh so if somebody found a moldy image of anything of Winnie-the-Pooh and was selling it, I might actually bid on it.

And can you imagine what a portion of honey would be worth if it had an image of Winnie-the-Pooh? Of course, maybe a block of cheese with an image of Mickey Mouse would be worth quite a lot as well.

But if it turns out the moldy Mickey Mouse sandwich actually fetches a decent amount of money, maybe this is a story I shouldn’t have pooh-poohed.
