Duane was born in Maxbass, ND to Joesph Albert Watson and Rosanna Branchaud. He moved to Southern California in 1942 when his father died.

Duane graduated from El Monte HS in 1949, was drafed into the Army in 1952 and served as a Supply Sgt. at Fort Ord.

He married Barbara Thompson on Valentines Day 1953. They later bought their first home in West Covina, CA, where they lived for 15 years, raising two daughters.

Duane was an expediter for crane and rigging companies in LA. In 1972 the family moved to Carson City, NV and he worked as a Teamster until retirement in 1993.

He loved to read and was known to finish a book a day. He was active in the Friends of the Library, setting up book sales. A nicer man would be hard to find.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Romaine.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, as well as his 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Rob Bates and Tammy and Dale Hansen. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Matthew (Pam) and Scott Bates, Megan and Connor Beattie, and 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Austin Currier and Emily Genio-Bates, sister-in-law Ute Watson, 2 nieces and many cousins who will miss him terribly.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
