Dec. 12, 1925 ~ May 15, 2017

Jean Horton died during peaceful rest, at her daughter’s home in St. John’s, Florida.

Jean was born at home in Laurinburg, North Carolina, and grew up during the Great Depression and World War II.

She received an AB in art from the Women’s College of the University of North Carolina. While working as a mechanical artist for Westinghouse at Friendship Airport (now BWI) in Baltimore, Maryland, she met her husband, Dave. They raised their three children in Nevada, where Dave practiced law.

Jean and Dave lived in Pioche, Nevada, for four years, before Dave was appointed district attorney for Lander County and the family moved to Battle Mountain, Nevada. They resided there for eleven years, before relocating to Carson City in 1978.

Jean was employed by Dynatech for many years. She was a volunteer at the Carson City Library, an active participant in aquacise classes at the Carson City Aquatics Center, and spent much time gardening. She loved cats.

She is survived by her three children, Laura Jean Briggs (Kevin), Robert Horton (Katherine) and Stella Hayes (Doug); as well as thirteen grandchildren, David, Jessica, Steven, Ruth, Anna, Michael, Joseph, Beth, Sara and Noah Briggs, and Hunter, Samantha, and Robert Hayes.

No service is planned, at her request.

Donations may be made in her memory to the Carson City Library.
