SILVER DOLLAR: It’s that time of year again to honor some of the area’s top athletes. We will start with girls golf where Karen and Jill Beglin led the Carson High girls golf team to a second place finish in the Northern regional tournament and a qualifying berth into the state tournament. Karen won the Northern 4A title while Jill finished third in the regional tournament. In cross country, Carson High’s Rheanna Jackson qualified for the state meet. Sierra Lutheran had a huge year with Jared Marchegger winning regional and state titles for the boys and Emily McNeely winning a regional title for the girls. Sierra Lutheran’s boys also placed second at region and fourth in the state as Teagan Hansen also took third in the region and fifth at state. McNeeley took fourth at state. Also to the Carson High boys soccer team for winning the Sierra League title. Finally, congratulations to Abel Carter who has signed to play baseball at Washington State. Carter just concluded an outstanding football career at Carson High, this year rushing for more than 1,900 yards, including 421 against Douglas. Top award winners for Northern Nevada athletes have been and are being announced and we’ll feature top local award winners in this column in the future.
