Carson City company changes name to gain ‘Momentum’

Nevada Photo Source, founded by photographer Cathleen Allison in 2009, is changing its name to Nevada Momentum to more accurately reflect the diversity of its work. “I started Nevada Photo Source as a photo agency, but over the years it has evolved as client needs expanded into writing, graphics, video, social media and web design,” Allison said. “The services have been much broader for several years. The business name is finally catching up to more accurately reflect the evolution of the company.”

Nevada revenues finish fiscal year spot on projections

The state finished fiscal 2017 with a total of $3.88 billion in General Fund revenue. That is within 1.8 percent of the total the Economic Forum predicted at its May 1 meeting and according to Mike Willden, chief of staff to Gov. Brian Sandoval, it’s actually 1.8 percent above that projection — $67.1 million to the good.

Fight creates huge gaming win for Nevada casinos; Carson Valley up nearly 9 percent

Gaming win rose 14.9 percent in August to $989.5 million, driven by the Mayweather-McGregor fight in Las Vegas. That represents a $128.4 million increase over the same month of 2016 and more than $32 million the total came from an increase in sports betting on the fight. That doesn’t count the extra revenue those fight fans contributed to the Baccarat and other games, which were also up significantly. Baccarat was up 38 percent to $101.6 million and “21” up 33.6 percent to $108.5 million.

Local veterans visit national memorials, monuments in Washington, D.C.

One by one veterans from Sunday’s Honor Flight Nevada walked down a velvet-roped corridor led by a bagpiper and two Civil Air Patrol cadets holding the United States Flag. The festive Scottish music filled the concourse with merriment as total strangers waiting for their flights moved to one side, many clapping for the veterans from World War II, Korea, Vietnam and Desert Storm who had just deplaned.

Carson City man accused of killing toddler pleads guilty

The man accused of killing a Carson City toddler pleaded guilty in court to murder charges Tuesday. Eric Buhl, 26, of Carson City pleaded guilty to one count of first degree murder for the death of Coahuyana Hernandez in March. Buhl was Hernandez’s caretaker when she died March 17 after deputies responded to reports of an unresponsive infant who had fallen.

Aston pleads not guilty in Carson City Judge Tatro’s case

A 74-year-old man accused of threatening a Carson City judge has pleaded not guilty to three felony charges. John Aston is facing charges for fourth-degree arson, aggravated stalking and discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling. The Carson City District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday that Aston has waived his right to trial.

Man arrested for threatening with hunting knife

A Carson City man was arrested Saturday after allegedly threatening Walmart staff with a hunting knife. Deputies responded to reports of a subject threatening with a knife at the Walmart at 5:21 p.m. According to reports, Walmart Loss Prevention Officers attempted to detain a man, later identified as 34-year-old Keith Price Jr., for shoplifting when Price pulled a knife on the two men.

Update: One suspect arrested in Carson City homicide case

One of two suspects was arrested at about 6 p.m. Monday in relation to a homicide that happened in Oregon on Sunday morning. Tevin Lafond, 21 of Yerington, was arrested in Lyon County. Washoe Tribal Police were searching a residence on the Carson City Colony for the other suspect, Kyle Steele, 21, of Carson City.

Multiple arrested on warrants, says Carson City Sheriff’s Office

The following people were booked into the Carson City Jail. All are considered innocent until proven guilty in court. Carson City MONDAY At 5:06 p.m., a 61-year-old Carson City woman was arrested on suspicion of violation of a suspended sentence after deputies responded to reports of an unwanted subject at the Roop Street Carson City Library. Bail was set at $1,000.

Public art subject of Capital City Arts Initiative talk
