Fallon boys place 5th at Reed meet

Behind several medalists, the Greenwave boys track and field team led all 3A schools while taking fifth in the Reed-Sparks Rotary Invitational on Saturday.

Reed won the varsity boys division with 146.5 points while Fallon came in at 46, 15 points and four placings ahead of Fernley. The Lady Wave had a tougher time, finishing 15th with 13.5 points as McQueen won the division with 142.5. The best 3A team in the varsity girls division was Truckee, which took fifth. Fallon’s boys frosh/soph participants finished 14th.

Fallon competes in Rocklin, Calif., before returning to the Silver State in two weeks for the Northwest meet at McQueen. The Greenwave hosts the Conclave of Awesomeness on April 18.

Drake Copley continued his hot start by taking second in both the 100- and 200-yard dashes. Copley, who won both events last week at the Fallon meet, finished the 100 in 11.39 seconds and 200 in 23.65.

Reid Clyburn finished third in the 300 hurdles with a season-best 42.23 while teammate Trevor Brown took ninth at 44.33. Brown was also 12th in the 110 hurdles in 17.76 followed by Clyburn in 13th at 17.84.

The 4x100 relay team took second after winning the event last week in Fallon. The team of Copley, Clyburn, Broder Thurston and Clayton Steelmon, who filled in for Colton Peterson, finished the race in 45.03. The same team took fourth in the 4x200 in 1:34.76.

The 4x800 team of J.R. Demillo, Tyler Marsha, Justin Cathey and Garrett Tognazzini finished the race in 9:17.32 for seventh, while the 4x400 team of Nathaniel Klein, Trevor East, Angela Vann and Demillio took 10th in 3:57.85.

Thurston finished fourth in the triple jump with a personal-best 39 feet, 1.5 inches, and East followed in fifth at 39-1.

In the frosh/soph, Zeke Washington took second in the 400 with a personal-best 55.25. The 4x100 relay team of Kayden Oron, Caden Bowman, Robert Beckford and Washington finished fifth in 50.18. William Howard, Bryan Ugalde, Washinton and Beckford took ninth in the 4x200 relay in 1:47.11.

The 4x800 team of Ugalde, William Dick, Logan Strong and Ruben Sanchez finished seventh in 10:10.35, and the 4x400 team of Dick, Sanchez, Loga Strong and Daniel Tapia finished 10th in 4:08.92. The distance medley team of Dick, Ugalde, Tapia and Will Swisher took third in 12:33.79.

Bowman finished seventh in the long jump at 17-6 and ninth in the triple jump at 35-3, a personal best.

Allie Lister and Glenda Lee became the first Lady Wave duo to place in the top eight of the pole vault at the Reed meet after both eclipsed the 8-foot mark. Lister finished fifth and Lee, whose mark was a personal best, finished eighth.

Kyndal Collins led in the 100 with a fifth-place finish after running the finals in 13.47. The 4x100 relay team of Collins, Aisha Sharron, Sierra Hickox and Brynlee Shults finished fifth in 53.07 and the 4x200 team of Allie Lister, Shelby and Sierra Hickox, and Collins took eighth in 1:55.71. Shults finished 10th in the triple jump at 30-10.5.

The distance medley team of Savannah Robinson, Makayle Mathisen, Shelby Hickox and Hailey Guerrero finished ninth in 15:15.05, and Robinson, Mathisen, and Mayla and Jordyn Dahl finished 10th in the 4x800 in 12:16.70.
