Sierra Lutheran baseball on 3-game winning streak

Sierra Lutheran is on a three-game winning streak after knocking off Coleville, 17-5, Tuesday afternoon in a Northern 1A baseball game in Minden.

On Friday, the Falcons swept Whittell, 6-2 and 15-5. The Falcons improved to 11-1.

Against Coleville, Sierra Lutheran batted around in the fourth inning to put the game away. Zane Warkentin went 3-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored. Seth Houghton went 2-for-4 with two triples and four RBI.

In the first-game win over Whittell, Rob Sciacca threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and he allowed two earned run.

In the second game of the twin-bill, Zac Houghton went 2-for-2 with a double, single and two RBI. Connor Braz went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Aaron Adams went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI.


SWIMMING

Carson sweeps NV; swept by DHS

MINDEN — Carson High’s boys and girls swim teams had their way with North Valleys on Saturday at the Carson Valley Aquatic Center. The boys won 223-17 and the girls won 203-45.

The Douglas boys beat Carson 159-135, and the DHS girls topped Carson, 188-119.

Against NV, Nicole Van Geel was a triple winner (200 medley relay, 200 IM, 100 breast). She won the 100 breaststroke against Douglas and was second in her other two specialties. Morgan Nelson won the 100 back and 200 free, and swam a leg on the medley relay. Against Douglas, she was second in the medley relay, second in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 back. Alex Perez Rojas won the 100 free versus North Valleys, swam a leg in the 200 medley relay and was second in the 200 IM. Against Douglas, she was second in all three events. Gillian Mandel won the 100 fly against NV and was second against Douglas.

Reece Canfield won the 100 fly and 100 free against NV, and he was on the winning 200 medley relay team and 400 relay. Canfield won both of his individual specialties against Douglas, and both relay teams were also victorious. Brett Kolb won the 100 back and 200 IM against NV, and he was on the winning 400 free relay team. He won both individual races against Douglas, and the 400 relay team also won. Matteas Klatt won the 200 free and 500 free against NV and Douglas, and both relay teams also beat Douglas.
