First Independent Bank is joining with community organizations, the Hot August Nights Foundation and the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows to collect warm winter coats for Northern Nevada children who might otherwise go without.

During September, the public is encouraged to support local children in need by dropping off a new or gently used winter coat at any First Independent Bank location in Carson City, Fallon, Reno or Sparks.

For the past four years, First Independent Bank has joined with the Hot August Nights Foundation to collect hundreds of coats which are then distributed to families by the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows.

“First Independent Bank is committed to help collect warm winter coats on behalf of those families that may not be able to afford them,” said Bob Francl, EVP, regional president, First Independent Bank. “We are always encouraged by the number of local businesses, community groups, clients and members of the general public who have contributed coats in the past, joining the efforts to support these families in the cold winter months.”

“As an organization, we look forward to this coat drive every year. When we’re approaching the colder months, it’s important to us that, as a community, we are cognizant about children who would be in need,” said Mike Whan, executive director of Hot August Nights and Hot August Nights Foundation. “Thanks to our community members and partners, we are able to help a significant amount of youth each year.”

Donated winter coats can be dropped off in September during normal business hours at the following First Independent Bank locations:

Carson City - 1818 East College Parkway, Carson City

Fallon - 2061 West Williams Avenue, Fallon

Kietzke Lane - 5335 Kietzke Lane, Reno

Robb Drive - 6290 Sharlands Avenue, Reno

Sparks Industrial - 980 South McCarran Boulevard, Sparks

Sparks Marina - 725 Sparks Boulevard, Sparks

All locations are open during business hours Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Those unable to make it to a First Independent Bank location during the month of September can also donate a new or gently used winter coat during the Hot August Nights Fall Frenzy Show-n-Shine and annual Coat Drive on Oct. 6 at Baldini’s Sports Casino in Sparks. Coats will be collected between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the “Show-n-Shine” area. Baldini’s is located at 865 S. Rock Boulevard, Sparks, Nevada 89431.
