Chewy, an adorable St. Bernard mix, is one-year-old. He is looking for a home with older children or dogs. Chewy is high energy and loves to play and romp. He is a perfect playmate. Please come out and meet him he is the sweetest guy ever and he wants a forever home.
Watson here and I think it’s about time everyone knows exactly what allergies their pets can have and what to do for them. I get allergies just like humans; recently my eyes were so itchy that mom wiped them with a cool, damp cloth. Gosh, that felt good!
Allergies are the body’s way of overreacting to an allergen. Most of the allergens are from plants, insects, animals or foods. Lots of stuff cause allergies, like pollen, mold spores, dust mites, foods and shed skin cells.
The most common symptom in dogs is itching. Other symptoms include coughing, sneezing, wheezing, matted eyes or runny eyes.
Flea spit causes allergy dermatitis, and that means itching big time. Fleas usually invade the rump by the tail base and run down the legs, biting as they go. I have never had a flea infestation, and I hope I never do.
Inhalant allergy, also called atopy, is caused by things found in the home and outside environment. Pollen is a huge villain, along with grass and all the green stuff that covers the ground. That’s why my eyes itch.
There are some treatments for allergies. Anti-inflammatory drug therapy involves taking corticosteroids or antihistamines. Shampoo therapy or frequent bathing with a hypoallergenic shampoo is great for itching. Desensitization therapy or allergy shots are given to reprogram the immune system.
The worst allergy is a food allergy because none of the treatments work on relieving it. The only way to diagnose it is by eliminating foods to see what is causing it. Well, mom, dad and I will just keep on wiping our eyes and noses until we make it through the summer.
