Domestic Violence Intervention, Inc.’s Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month dodgeball tournament has been rescheduled due to schedule conflicts with other events.

The tournament will now take place March 3 at 3 p.m. in Venturacci Gym.

DVI is still accepting team registration — teams must have six members with at least two females; they must also create a poster for awareness of teen dating violence. Groups can sign up by calling 423-1313.

There is a $20 registration fee. Teams will be able to complete their registration day of, starting at 1 p.m.

Suzette McCusker, an advocate with DVI, said sponsors include Fox Peak Cinema, Pizza Barn, Big 5 and more. The sponsors have donated prizes for the winning team, including movie passes, a pizza party, sub sandwiches and others.

Prizes will go to the first and second place teams, the most spirited team, and the most creative theme.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and is a time to educate teens on abuse while dating as well as raise awareness of the services available to those who suffer violence. McCusker estimated 1 in 4 teens either experience dating violence or know someone who has.

“The goal is to get more kids involved and more kids talking,” McCusker said. “I’m hoping if we promote something like this … it’ll get more kids interested and involved.”

The tournament was originally planned for this weekend. However, with the state basketball tournament, a dance, youth baseball signups and other activities also taking place, DVI decided to hold their event a week when more people would be able to attend.
