Prep Roundup: Carson High softball tunes up for Douglas with rout

RENO — Carson High’s softball team tuned up for its Saturday showdown with Douglas by routing Wooster, 18-1, Thursday.

Carson improved to 12-6 in league play. Saturday’s doubleheader will determine playoff seeding for the Tigers, which beat Galena, 4-1, Thursday, and Senators. Both have already clinched playoff spots. Douglas is 13-5.

The playoffs start Thursday at Bishop Manogue with games slated for 12:30, 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Carson pounded out 15 hits, nine for extra bases.

Kailee Luschar went 3-for-4 with a single, double and homer. Jailene Salciedo, who pitched a 1-hitter, also had a single, double and homer. Kedre Luschar went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Amaya Mendeguia went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Alex Salciedo also went 2-for-4. Nicole Brown drove in three runs with a double and sacrifice fly and Cam Quilling had a single and two RBI.

Kailee Luschar opened the game with a homer on the third pitch of the contest. Kedre Luschar tripled and then scored on a wild throw. Jailene Salciedo followed with a homer to make it 3-0. Amaya Mendeguia singled, moved to third on Alex Salciedo’s double and scored on a passed ball. Quilling’s infield out scored Alex Salciedo, completing the first-inning barrage.

Carson went on to add three in the second and five in both the third and fourth innings. Wooster’s only run came in the second. The game was stopped for the 15-run rule after the fourth inning.

Jailene Salciedo struck out five and walked one. Peyton Farmer singled for the Colts’ only hit.


TRACK

Dayton girls 2nd, boys 3rd in Fernley

FERNLEY — Dayton High’s girls track team finished second and the boys were third at the Lyon County Championships on Wednesday.

Five teams — Fernley, Dayton, Yerington, Silver Stage and Smith Valley — competed.

Fernley won both titles. The boys had 159.33 points and the girls won with 158 points. The Dayton girls compiled 94.5 points and the Dayton boys compiled 59.66 points.

Ashley Mason swept the long and triple jumps with marks of 16-10 and 35-1, respectively. Sydney Stricker took the 100 in 13.28 and the 200 in 27.66. Rebecca Mason won the high jump at 4-8 and was second in the 400 at 64.15. Gina Riggins was second in the 300 hurdles at 55.42.

The quartet of the Masons, Macie Callan and Strickler won the 800 relay in 1:50.65 and the 1600 relay in 4:17.83.

Jeff Walker was the only individual winner, in the boys pole vault with a mark of 12-feet. He was also second in the 300 hurdles in 45.67. David Delfin was second in the discus at 116-5 and Peter Miklich was second in the 400 with a career-best time of 57.20. The 3200 relay team of Austin Duarte, Madsen Evans, Jason Logan and Tyler Logan was second at 9:28.57.


GOLF

Carson golfers 5th at Arrowcreek

RENO — Carson High closed out the regular season with a fifth-place finish at Arrowcreek on Wednesday.

Galena, led by Presley Mackelburg’s 69, won with a 285. Bishop Manogue was second at 306, Damonte was at 363, Douglas at 375 and Carson was at 400.

Xander Smokey, who shot 89, was the lone Carson player under 100. Daniel Escalante was at 100, Ethan Lepire was at 104 and Ty Evans at 107.
