Community sports: Dawson leads Chiefs past Cowboys

Dawson Herbert threw two TD passes to Alex Myrehn as the Chiefs beat the Cowboys, 28-13, in the feature game of the NFL Talents Carson City Flag Football League.

In other games, the Packers blanked the 49ers, 30-0, and lost to the Chiefs, 43-13. The Rams won twice, stopping the Cowboys, 25-6 and blanking the 49ers, 24-0.

Here are the weekly highlights and standings:

Willing top skin

winner at C. Valley

Chris Willing nabbed four skins at the recent Carson Valley Men’s Club Tournament on May 13.

Willing won Nos. 2, 12, 13 and 14 to capture the top honors in the A Flight. Frank Ramirez won Nos. 4 and 17.

In Flight B, John Carey, Willie Tenney and Neil Bain all won two skins.

Robert Van Nort and Ramirez won closest to the hole on No.1 and No 18, respectively.


Vadnais group wins

Empire tournament

Mike Vadnais, Tom Teders, Juan Lopez and Gary Mick shot a net 49 to win the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club scramble event on May 9.

The winners won a tiebreaker over John Masiello, Nick Paul, Mike Andrade and John Lewis.

Albert Giannotti, Greg Bentley, Ken Cuneo and Skip Yokota finished third, and the quartet of Dino DiCianno, Roger Maxwell, Dan Rodgers and Jerry Ventura were fourth.


Sierra Lutheran stars

make all-league

Seth Houghton was named the Northern 1A Co-Player of the Year in baseball in a vote of league coaches.

Michael Davis, Zak Houghton, and Zane Warkentin made first-team all-league. Rocky DiMartino and Rob Sciacca made second-team all-league.


Honor Flight Nevada

tournament May 27

The annual Honor Flight Nevada Charity Golf Tournament and Dinner is set for May 27 at The Club at ArrowCreek in Reno.

Registration is at 10:30 a.m. for the noon shotgun. The dinner and dance starts at 6 p.m.

The cost is $225 per golfer, which includes golf, range balls, cart, lunch, dinner and dance tickets.
