League of Women Voters forums set in Carson City

The League of Women Voters is hosting four free election forums in Carson City.

The forums, co-sponsored by Sierra Nevada Forums, AAUW, PFLAG, Partnership Carson City and the Carson City Arts and Culture Coalition, will be at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall, 511 W. King St.

The public is encouraged to attend and submit questions for the speakers.

The six statewide ballot issues will be discussed at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 8 with presenters addressing the positive and negative for each question.

The six ballot questions are Question 1: Marsy’s Law; Question 2: Pink Tax Repeal; Question 3: Energy Choice Initiative; Question 4: Medical Patient Tax Relief; Question 5: Automatic Voter Registration Initiative; and Question 6: Renewable Energy Promotion.

Statewide Constitutional Officer candidates, including Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Controller, and Attorney General, have been invited to the forum scheduled at 6 p.m. Oct. 9.

The forum scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 15 will feature Carson City Board of Supervisors Ward 1 candidates Stacey Giomi and John Wood; Sheriff candidates Ken Furlong and Lorne Houle; and Justice of the Peace Department 2 candidates Kristin Luis and Ryan Russell.

The final forum, at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16, will feature the following candidates: Congressional District 2: Mark Amodei and Clint Koble; State Senate District 16: Tina Davis-Hersey and Ben Kieckhefer; State Senate District 17: Curtis Cannon and James Settelmeyer; Assembly District 39: Patricia Ackerman, Paul Cwalina and Jim Wheeler; and Assembly District 40: Al Kramer and Autumn Zemke.

Early voting begins Oct. 20 and ends Nov. 2 at the first floor of the courthouse, 885 E. Musser St. Election day is Nov. 6.
