The Board of Supervisors starts reviewing Carson City’s fiscal year 2020 budget on Thursday.
In the afternoon session starting at 1:30 p.m., the board will look at the proposed $7.41 million capital improvement program and the $92.70 million general fund budget, which includes $6.16 million in reserves.
The total budget consists of 25 governmental funds with estimated spending of $122.75 million and 10 proprietary funds with estimated expenses of $51.42 million.
The $7.41 million request for capital improvements includes $2.52 million in vehicle replacements, $545,845 for Public Work’s radio system replacement, and $500,000 for city-wide administration software.
The supplemental budget requests, which are requests for additions to department budgets, total $2.33 million.
In the afternoon, the supervisors will also convene as the Redevelopment Authority and consider the $2.68 million redevelopment authority 2020 budget and capital improvement plan.
In the morning, the board will vote whether to approve the city’s contract with Hometown Health and contributions to employee health savings accounts. There’s no rate increase for the year.
The supervisors will decide whether to approve a new, six-month cooperative agreement with the Carson Rifle and Pistol Club for services at the Carson Rifle and Pistol Range. A decades-old agreement expires this month and a task force on the range recommended to continue with a short-term agreement while the range’s future is being worked out.
The annual assessment of the Downtown Neighborhood Improvement District will be presented. The assessment of downtown businesses covers their share of maintenance for the streetscape.
The supervisors will vote whether to take a position on two more bills of the 80th session of the Nevada Legislature. Senate Bill 465 concerns taxes for redevelopment areas and school districts, and Assembly Bill 436 revises the provisions for veterans’ exemptions from certain taxes.
