Community Sports: Silver State gymnasts successful at regional meet

The Silver State Gymnastics Academy team wrapped up a successful Level 6 and 7 Regional One competition last weekend in Reno.

The meet is a prestigious one comprising teams from Southern California, Northern California, Nevada, Utah and Arizona.

Emily Lewis was one of only 12 gymnasts who were chosen to be on the State team for Nevada. She placed second on bars, fifth on beam, and received the fifth place all-around medal in the level 7 Senior B division.

Elle Liebendorfer was fourth on vault, first on bars, and third place all-around in the level 7 Senior F division.

Eliana Hollar was fourth on beam, fifth on floor, and sixth place all-around in the level 7 Senior F division.

Eviana McGowan was second on bars, fourth on beam, third on floor, and second place all-around in the level 7 Senior H division.

“I couldn’t put into words just how proud I am of these girls,” said David Lester of Silver State. “Their guts, drive, and determination never ceases to amaze me even after all these years.”

Silver State’s Xcel gold girls will compete this weekend in San Diego at a Regional meet.

Results for the Carson Valley Women’s Golf Club’s Tournament held on Sunday. Stableford scoring was used:

Flight 1 — 1. Anne Henderson-38 points; 2. Virginia Irlikis-31; 3. Margie Stephens-31; 4. Sue Carston -28; 5. Joni Taylor-28

Flight 2 — 1. Jan Nolan-36; 2. Debbie Warzynski-33; 3. Donna Sugden-32; 4. Cathy Addington-32

Flight 3 — 1. Ursula McManus-37; 2. Helen Brownfield-35; 3. Jan Singyke-34; 4. Kelly King-33

Carson Valley Men’s Club Results

The Carson Valley Men’s Golf Club held an open play tournament on Easter Saturday. Members were encourage to invite guests to play on this day.

Flight A was won by Danny Wallis with a net score of 66, followed by Bill King with 72 and Augie Martinez with 73. Sandy Martin led Flight B with a net 63 followed by Fred Coons with 69 and Mike Davis with 73. Flight C was taken by Mel Ness with 67 ahead of Bruce Sanford also with 67 and Gary Carsten with 72. The Guest bracket was won by Kevin Hughes, followed by Sean Smitreski and Vince Mack.

The closest to the pin contest was won by Mel Ness on Hole No. 1, Bruce Southwick on Hole No. 17 and Sandy Martin on Hole No. 18.

Milo Beauchman Tops Silver Oak Leaderboard

Milo Beauchman carded a one-over 72 for the low gross score at the Sunday Men’s Club event April 21 at Silver Oak Golf Course.

The low net (after handicap is applied) top finishers in the first flight were Alex Talmant and Andrew Sels with 68, while Joe Glazner, Jim Fuller, and Beauchman tied for third with 70.

In the second flight (players with higher handicaps), Jeff Klipp and Jeff Cloutier shot the low net 68, followed by Dennis Baughman, Eric Schaub, and Ron Tamori tied for third with 69.

In the third flight, Gary Gamba shot the low net 65, while Joe Paden and Brad Williams tied for second with 69.

The Sunday Men’s Club season runs every Sunday through Oct. 27 at Silver Oak Golf Course and features weekly games with three flights based on handicap and optional gross and net skins games.

Golfers may stop by the golf shop to pick up an application or visit www.silveroakgolf.com to print out and mail an entry. Members of the men’s club receive reduced green fees, range balls every Sunday, Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) service for the year, lunches and awards banquet, prizes, trophies, and access to a web portal to view events and scores each week.

Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Golf Club results

The Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Golf held an Individual Stroke Play Tournament on April 24. Flight A was won by John Tierney with a net score of 59, followed by Bill Hammons and Steve Fagnant with 65 and Nick Paul with 66. Fred Coons won Flight B with a net score of 63 ahead of Gene Gaston with 67, Mike Vadnais with 68 and Duane Carroll with 70. Donald Dick won Flight C with a net score of 63 ahead of Jeff Surber with 66, Henry Teague with 67 and Tom Teders with 69. John Lewis won Flight D with a net score of 63 ahead off Nils Sharpe with 66. Dennis Small with 69 and Tom Harlow with 70. The closest to the pin contest was won by John Tierney on Hole No. 5, Tom Teders on Hole No. 8, Nick Paul on Hole #13 and Rene Ojeda on Hole No. 17.

Carson City Boxing Club celebrates anniversary

The Carson City Boxing Club, 3597 Highway 50 East, suite 219, will celebrate its 20th anniversary during a free event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11. Featured will be food trucks, live sparring and raffle prizes.
