Filing for one city council ward and mayor closes Friday at 5 p.m.

The city clerk’s office at 55 W. Williams Ave., is handling the filings. According to state law, if only one person files for an office, that person will be named the winner, and no further election will be conducted for that office.

Robert “Bob” Erickson, who represents Ward 2, cannot run against because of term limits. Residents wishing to succeed him must live in the ward for a minimum period of time.

Erickson first served as a councilman from 1983-87, and then was elected mayor for two four-year terms in 1987 and 1991. In his second time on city council, Erickson is finishing his third term. Erickson is a former banker and owner of Fallon Theatres.

Mayor Ken Tedford, who ran unopposed in 2015 as did Erickson, is running for re-election. The Fallon native has served as mayor since 1995 and was on the city council for eight years prior to his current position. He is owner of a family-owned auto shop that has been serving the community since 1947.
