Fallon wins opening track meet

The Greenwave track and field team began the season on the right foot, winning both the girls and boys divisions in the three-team opening-weekend meet at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex on Saturday.

Fallon won the girls division with 90 points, followed by Fernley with 54 and Dayton with 25. The Wave won the boys division with 79.5 points over Fernley (60.5) and Dayton (42). Fallon travels to Yerington on Saturday before hosting the Elks Invitational next weekend.

The following are the top eight finishes for Fallon in each event.

JV softball knocks off 2 teams in 4A tournament

The Fallon junior varsity softball team finished 2-2-1 in the 4A JV tournament over the weekend in Reno.

Fallon defeated Reno (7-3) and Carson (7-1), tied McQueen (8-8) and lost to Spanish Springs (8-7) and Carson (8-2).

In the win over Reno, Franny Mori pitched a one-hitter and also hit three home runs while scoring five runs. In the win over Carson, Mori had another one-hitter with seven strikeouts. Emily Clyburn and Trinity Helton each finished 2 for 3 at the plate with Clyburn also hitting a home run.

In the tie against McQueen, Shaylee Coldwell and Destiny Tonti were perfect in three appearances at the plate. Coldwell had two doubles and Tonti doubled once. In the loss to Spanish Springs, Fallon fell short in the final inning with two outs but recorded a double-play in the game. Reid (two appearances) and Clyburn (three) were perfect at the plate. Clyburn had a double, and Raelynn and Coldwell each went 2 for 3.
