Prep Roundup: Carson High softball dominant in 2 wins

The Carson High softball team pounded out 31 hits in two games on their way to two dominant wins on Friday in the Reed Tournament.

Carson had 14 hits in an 11-0 win over Reno and then belted 17 hits in an 18-3 win over Shasta, Calif. Carson was scheduled to play Alhambra later on Friday.

Against Reno, Caydee Farnworth pitched a no-hitter, striking out six over four innings. Kailee Luschar and Kedra Luschar both had huge days in the two games as Kailee went 6-for-6 with a home run and Kedra went 5-for-6 with three triples, a homer and six RBI.

Kailee was 3-for-3 and Kedra was 2-for-3 with a homer, triple and three RBI against Reno. Carson scored six runs in the second inning to break the game open and take a 9-0 lead against the Huskies.

Also for Carson, Amaya Mendeguia was 2-for-2, Kassidy Cooley had a hit, Jaliene Salciedo, Farnworth and Shannen VonDuering all doubled and Bella Kordonowy was 2-for-2 with a triple.

Kailee was 3-for-3 with a homer and four runs and Kedra was 2-for-3 with two triples and three RBI against Shasta. Carson scored nine runs in the third to take a 15-1 lead.

Also for the Senators, Mendeguia and Kennedy Redican each had a hit, Cooley doubled, Kordonowy homered with three RBI, Salciedo went 3-for-3 with a double, triple and homer, Camryn Quilling went 2-for-3 with a double and Lauren Hawkins went 2-for-3. Salciedo was the winning pitcher, allow one run and striking out four over two innings.

Spanish Springs 4, Carson 1

The Carson High softball team went toe-to-toe with defending state champion Spanish Springs in Sparks on Wednesday before the Cougars scored three runs in the fifth inning on their way to a 4-1 win.

Kedra Luschar singled, stole second and third and scored on an error to give Carson a 1-0 lead in the first. But the Cougars’ Tyra Clark had Carson in check the rest of the way, pitching a complete game four-hitter while striking out 12.

Jaliene Salcido pitched a complete game for CHS, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one over six innings. Camryn Quilling, Shannen VonDuering and Amaya Mendeguia all also had a hit for the Senators.

Douglas 5, Lassen 0

The Douglas softball team went 3-0 at the Reed Tournament on Friday, opening with the win against Lassen. Kettja Bennett threw a complete game shutout for Douglas, pitching a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks over six innings.

Ryleigh Blaire hit a home run during the Tigers’ four-run fourth inning. Douglas added a run in the fifth. Blalire led the Tigers, going 3-for-3.

Douglas 5, Atwater 2

Atwater scored two runs in the top of the first on Friday at Reed High but Douglas answered with two runs in the bottom of the first and three runs in the third. Bailey Walter had an RBI during the Tigers’ two-run first.

In the third Bennett hit an RBI and Walter and Kendal Moore each had RBI singles to give Douglas a 5-2 lead. Winning pitcher Alyssa Smokey earned the victory, scattering eight hits while allowing two runs over four innings. Deztiny Vaughan pitched a scoreless fifth to earn the save for Douglas.

Douglas had nine hits as Bennett and Haley Doughty each had three hits. The Tigers were also perfect on defense, not committing an error.

Douglas 6, Amador Valley 0

Vaughan pitched a complete game shutout for Douglas, throwing a two-hitter while striking out 12 and walking none over seven innings.

Douglas scored four runs to take a 4-0 lead in the first.

Bennett had an RBI single and Walter, and Aspen Smokey also drove in runs during the inning. Haley Doughty went 2-for-3 Douglas. The Tigers were again perfect in the filed, not committing an error.

Elko 4, Dayton 1

Dayton took two tough losses this past week, losing at Fallon 7-5 on Monday and at Elko. Against Elko, Dayton took a 1-0 lead in the first but Elko scored single runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings.

Caliegh Onstott pitched a complete game for Dayton, allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out four over six innings. Amanda Woitas went 2-for-3 to lead the Dust Devils.

Fallon 7, Dayton 5

The Dust Devils sustained their second straight close loss to Fallon when the Greenwave scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. Dayton had scored three runs in the top of the sixth to tie the score 5-5. Julie Rogacs’ homer helped spark the rally. Rogacs went 2-for-3 to lead Dayton.
