Nevada gets $43.7 million for victims assistance programs

The Justice Department’s Victims of Crime office has awarded more than $43.7 million to 10 programs in Nevada.

The state Victims of Crime programs operated by Health and Human Services, department of Administration and Division of Child and Family Services will receive $40.3 million of that total.

But individual grants were also awarded to the Shoshone-Paiute and Reno-Sparks Indian Colony tribal programs as well as a program operated by the Reno Police Department and private programs operated by the Rape Crisis Center, Southern Nevada Human Trafficking services and Awaken, Inc.

“This funding will help Nevada service providers and law enforcement provide the necessary assistance and compensation to survivors in need of critical service assistance during their road to recovery,” said Nevada U.S. Attorney Nick Trutanich.

The grants are part of a $2.3 billion in victim assistance funding awarded to some 6,000 local, direct service programs. They include child advocacy centers, domestic violence shelters, rape crisis centers, human trafficking and elder abuse programs as well as legal services.
