Another storm expected Saturday into Monday

A Thanksgiving storm caused snow-covered roadways for Black Friday shoppers in Northern Nevada.

The National Weather Service in Reno reported 4 inches in Minden as of Friday morning. Carson City totals were more than 2 inches by Friday afternoon.

Road crews were working Friday to clean up before the next round of storms made its way into the region.

NWS said a new storm is expected to hit from Saturday into Monday morning. Above 7,000 feet, the storm is expected to drop up to 4 feet of snow.

The storm is expected to hit the area Saturday night with 5 to 9 inches possible at lake level with another 6 to 10 inches expected Sunday, again causing massive delays to end the Thanksgiving weekend.

In the valley areas, the snow could turn into rain Sunday night making it difficult to predict snow accumulations.

“Instead of telling you the whole spiel of when not to drive, we think it’s easier to give the advice of just staying home this weekend,” said a tweet from the National Weather Service in Reno. “It’ll be a mess out there and we want everyone to enjoy their holiday weekend.”
