Carson City school board to vote on Snyder Avenue purchase Tuesday

The Carson City School Board will vote to authorize Superintendent Richard Stokes to negotiate a purchase agreement for the property at 1600 Snyder Ave. in an amount not to exceed $5.67 million at its next meeting Tuesday night.

The purchase is subject to the completion of an appraisal, and Stokes will provide a final update on the inspections and feasibility study on the property that the district has been examining for its viability as a potential school site since June. Stokes has been collaborating with local architect Darrin Berger of Berger Hannafin and gathering feedback from a citizen committee and will provide final results on Tuesday of the environmental assessment and tests as part of the district’s due diligence process. The purchase price would be funded by the district’s 2019B bond sale as presented at the board’s Oct. 8 meeting. Local charter school Carson Montessori recently expressed interest in using the facility as a program site after it has been without a permanent home for two years.

The board on Tuesday also is expected to vote on an interlocal agreement with Carson City to enact the School Safety grant for the School Resource Officer program covering the district’s personnel costs not to exceed $626,160.05 for 2020-21.

Trustees also will approve an updated Capital Improvement Plan, presented by fiscal director Andrew Feuling, for fiscal years 2019-24.

Stokes also will receive his annual evaluation from the board for 2019.
