If you look at our Christmas tree with its many beautiful ornaments, the top commands your attention, because the angel that tops the tree is a Yellow Labrador. Yes, our angel is a Lab dressed in appropriate angel attire, wings, and a halo.

The angel has adorned our Christmas tree for over 20 years. The angel came to our tree when we first got a puppy just before Christmas. We called our puppy Baby, because she was such a tiny little puppy. We soon realized that she was no angel; in fact, she was a terror to the tree. Puppies are so curious they cannot help but plow into everything.

Soon our Christmas tree had no ornaments lower than two feet and no presents under it. Presents we discovered were excellent puppy toys. As Baby grew older, we were able to move some of the ornaments down; however, she always knew which gift was hers and if any of the gifts were edible. Many evenings you would hear her rummaging around the tree checking out the gifts and ornaments.

Baby lived to be an old girl. She was 16 ½ when she fell asleep and never woke up. Recently, Pope Francis suggested all animals go to heaven. I could not agree with him more; in fact, the angel on my tree reminds me of Baby every Christmas.

Watson has his own ornaments, too as there are several Chocolate Labs dotting the tree. Watson is not the rogue that Baby was but he spends a good deal of time sniffing out the edible gifts. I have not put his special treat under the tree yet, but on Christmas morning, I can assure you he will find it immediately. Our family wishes you the best Christmas ever!
