A search for a man who reportedly had a gun near a church last week turned up empty.

According to the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, a call reported a man dress in all black clothing and carrying a gun was carrying a large black backpack in the vicinity of Grace Bible Church on Sheckler Road. Grace Bible Church Campus houses Logos Christian Academy, a small private school.

Sheriff Richard Hickox said in a release both the school and church facility were placed on lockdown and searched, but no evidence or witnesses were located. He said further information and details were obtained during its investigation from the original caller. Based on additional information, the CCSO determined original the location was not correct.

Hickox said responding units from the CCSO and the Fallon Police Department then responded to the correct area near Numa and E.C. Best elementary schools and Emmanuel Church on East Stillwater Avenue where officers undertook an exhaustive search there.

No one matching the description was located and no witnesses or evidence were located during the second search. In an abundance of caution, Hickox said law enforcement remained in the immediate area of the schools.

Contrary to reports on social media and other sources, he said no reports of shots having been fired during this incident were received by the CCSO.

“We would like to thank the staffs at the Churchill County School District and Logos Christian Academy for their cooperation and quick response to our efforts,” Hickox said. “As always we are grateful for our partnership with surrounding agencies and would like to thank the Fallon Police Department for their assistance in searching.”
