Criminal charges have been dropped in Nevada against three topless protesters who were arrested at a rally for Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders in Carson City in February.
The three animal-protection activists from California were arrested Feb. 16 for gross misdemeanor indecent exposure after they took the stage while the Vermont senator was speaking and denounced the dairy industry, according to KOLO-TV.
Rachel Ziegler, 27, and Carla Cabral, 48, both of Oakland, Calif., and Audrey Rees, 19, of San Diego were booked into the jail on $2,500 bail, but later released. They are affiliated with the San Francisco-based activist group, Direct Action Everywhere, which issued a news release this week publicizing the dropping of the charges.
Carson City District Attorney Jason Woodbury confirmed in an email to The Associated Press on Friday none will be prosecuted.
"Although there was probable cause for arrest, the state will not be filing criminal charges in this mater. Please exonerate any or all bail or bond," Deputy District Attorney Melanie Brantingham wrote in a March 5 memo to Carson City Justice/Municipal Court.
Woodbury declined any further comment on Friday. Sanders campaign said at the time it opposed prosecution of the activists.
