You know you’re talking to a horsewoman when she uses rodeo as a verb.

The local chapter of Dare to Be a Cowboy is working with Circle S Western Market in Gardnerville to set up a western-themed angel tree.

Organizer Hannah-Beth Tems said the goal of her group is to help children get into rodeo.

She said the web site at dtbac.com has an application for tags for the tree, which features items people can donate.

There will also be a barrel at Circle S for people who want to donate items. She said gifts can be pretty much anything with a cowboy theme.

“There are a lot of people helping me,” she said.

Tems has been rodeoing since her family arrived in Carson Valley when she was a girl.

“I’m a first-generation horsewoman,” she said. “I’ve ridden since I was 7 and rodeoed since I was 12.”

The 2015 Douglas High School graduate went to Texas for college before returning to the Valley to finish her degree.

She is a barrel racer and gives riding lessons in addition to working full time.
