The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation is reminding people that those receiving Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Benefits must verify their identification.
The verification is mandatory under federal law to qualify for the benefits that go to the self-employed, part-timers and gig workers.
But a spokesman said claimants should not verify their ID unless instructed to do so.
DETR officials say they are working to verify claimant identities through ID.me, an online provider. Claimants should follow the directions provided in an email message or link provided through their unemployment account.
“Protecting eligible claimants and their data is one of our top priorities and partnering with ID.me aids the state in ensuring eligible claimants get access to unemployment benefits while combating unemployment fraud,” said Lynda Parven, head of the Employment Security Division.
Claimants who don’t have access to a computer or smart phone can contact the PUA call center for help at 800-603-9681 or 775-298-6007.
