The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a crash involving a vehicle that fatally struck a pedestrian Friday night at the corner of U.S. Highway 50 (Williams Avenue) and Whitaker Lane.

The NHP said Monday the crash occurred at about 7:16 p.m. and involved two pedestrians.

According to the NHP, a preliminary investigation stated a white 1996 Ford pickup towing a flatbed trailer was westbound in the left lane on Williams Avenue approaching the intersection of Whitaker Lane. Two pedestrians entered the crosswalk to walk south toward Whitaker Lane. The NHP said the pickup entered the intersection against the red traffic signal and struck the pedestrians. One of the pedestrians, Anita Assam, 80, of Palm Desert, Calif., died at the scene.

This crash is being investigated by the NHP’s Northern Command West Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (M.I.R.T.) — NHP Case #210400658.
