Spoiled cats and the art of nuzzling

Baby is a lovely black two-year-old domestic short-hair. Her golden eyes are captivating! She came to CAPS with her kittens. Baby is looking for that special someone who will take time to be with her and give her love. Black cats are good luck and you could be the lucky person to take her home.

Watson here and I just received an email from Me and Ow (fondly known as the Brat Cats). It seems that they have taken offense with the last article on nuzzling. They are complaining that I did not mention cats at all. Well, the article was about dogs, but I aim to please, so let us explore the secret codes of cats.

Just like dogs, cats have scent glands in their cheeks, paws, and under the tail. When cats nuzzle by pressing their face into someone, they are marking them with their signature perfume. This scent is a source of comfort and familiarity reminding them that they are safe.

Cats have several ways to show affection, but occasionally they can be annoying. Getting up close and personal to your face is one way they demand attention and get petting. However, not all cats enjoy physical contact. Instead of touching, they may follow their person for companionship.

Other ways they display affection are rubbing against your chin, sniffing your nose, and nestling next to your neck. These actions are ways to show how much they care about you. Nibbling, licking, and gentle little bites are your cat’s way of kissing.

Massages with paws and claws are forms of kneading. Kittens learn kneading from their mothers. It provides comfort and serves as a display of love. If the claws give you pause, it is time to trim your cat’s nails.

Cats give intense eye contact to those they love. If your cat is purring while giving you the look of love, you have a purrfect relationship. Fortunately, for me the cat does not have my tongue.
XOXO Watson
