Gov. Steve Sisolak on Wednesday signed legislation creating the treasurer’s program to provide special bank accounts to help the disabled.
The program, in AB62 called ABLEnow, allows Treasurer Zach Conine and his deputy Erik Jimenez to provide disabled Nevadans the opportunity to set up an account that’s flexible, easy to manage and allows the holder to pay for a range of qualified disability expenses.
Earnings in those accounts are allowed to grow without federal taxes and some states can offer tax incentives.
In addition, ABLEnow account balances are generally disregarded when determining eligibility for means-tested benefit programs such as Medicaid, Supplemental Security Income and others.
