It has always been Michael Morley’s lifelong dream to be in the business of books.

That’s what Dan Kaffer, Morley’s closest friend, told the Appeal this morning, standing at a table situated outside Morley’s Books, A Unique Book Shop. He was counting out change for customers during the store’s closing and liquidation sale.

The book shop will close for good today.

Situated in a quiet corner of the historic district, the building itself is rooted in Carson City history. Not only has it welcomed readers from all over the city, but it’s housed governors, prostitutes, and ghosts (if you believe the stories) over the course of a century and a half.

“It’s been everything you can dream of and more,” Kaffer said.

He added that Morley’s family is hoping to find a buyer for the building who appreciates its rich history. The store will soon be on the market, looking for a new owner to add their own stories to its walls.
