This year’s cantaloupe festival at the Churchill County Fairgrounds is Aug 27-29.
Ticket prices: One day is $8 for adults and $2 for children 10 and under. A weekend pass is $12 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.

Hours for the festival will be 1 p.m. to midnight on Friday, 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
On Friday, Aug. 27, Steve Christy begins the evening at 8 a.m. on the main stage followed by the Nashville Stars Live.
Then, on Saturday night, Mustache Kitty takes the stage in the main arena at 8 p.m. The Ultimate Van Halen Experience with musicians impersonating David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar follows at 9 p.m.
At the pavilion on Friday night, Dalton Kaady kicks of the festival at 5 p.m., and Will Shamberger wraps up the evening at 6:30 p.m. Music on Saturday begins at 9 a.m. with Nick Casella. Other entertainers include Evan Martin, Marty, Buddy Peterson, Shamberger, Kaade, Annabelle, Chef Clint, Larry Little, The Coaches and Steve and Raena.
Sam Malcom, a juggler who mixes comedy with his act, will be strolling around the fairground.
Rick Lattin of Lattin Farms is the area’s largest producer of melons, and he’s in charge of this year’s Farmers Market.


Labor Day weekend
The Labor Day weekend will have a number of activities for area residents starting with the annual Fallon Lions Club parade, the longest running event of its type in Nevada.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating the Survival of the Pandemic.”
The Fallon Lions Club is accepting entries.
The registration deadline for all entries is early September. Awards will be given in the following categories: President’s Award, Best Use of Theme, Most Creative, Best Youth Group, Best Civic Group, Best Business Entry, Best Mounted Individual, Best Mounted Group, Best Antique Farm implement and Best Automotive entry.

Pancake breakfast
Before the parade, though, will be the annual Fallon Rotary Club Labor Day pancake breakfast hosted by the Fallon Rotary Club. Both the parade and breakfast have been favorite stops for many local and state politicians who participate in the Labor Day festivities.
The breakfast is from 7-10 a.m. and includes all-you-can eat pancakes, sausage, eggs, fresh fruit, coffee and Sandhill Diary white and chocolate milk. The cost is $10 for adults and $4 for children.
The breakfast will be held behind the Churchill County Library.
Junior rodeo
The Fallon Lions Club Junior Rodeo begins Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. at the Churchill County Fairgrounds with the queen contest and continues Saturday in the main arena with its first performance at 8 a.m. The second go-around is Sunday at 8 a.m., and the Top 10 concludes the three days of rodeo action beginning at 8 a.m. on Labor Day.
The categories include Pee Wee, ages 0-5; Junior Boys and Girls, ages 6-9; Intermediate Boys and Girls, ages 10-13; and Senior Boys and Girls, ages 14-18.
