The gout: Frisbie was “bobbing around” yesterday, looking as fresh as a hen after incubation. He has his gout confined to one arm, and both legs, and the other hand. Bully for him; he has more lives than a cat.

In brief: The new Mint refinery building is being completed. The first freight line has reduced the fare from Bodie to Carson to $2 per person.
So far Lake Bigler has been visited by a greater number of tourists than at any season during the preceding five years.

Death: The body of a dead woman was found on the public highway and was removed to the morgue by Undertaker Krujjies who said that her neck had been broken. She was known as Jennie, aged 30 years, sister to Captain Pete and addicted to liquor and opium.

Telephone cost increase: The Nevada Telephone-Telegraph asked the state Public Service Commission to increase telephone rates in Tonopah and Goldfield. The cost of business phones would increase from $8 to $13.50 a month for single party service. For four-party service, the cost would go from $6 to $10.50.

Hitler’s retreat: Adolf Hitler loved the Alpine panorama so much he built a retreat from which he plotted his assault on Europe. Now a luxury resort is being built on the mountaintop much to the dismay of Jewish leaders.

Fire: The engines were out in a twinkling and a stream was going into the building. The house in which the fire was discovered is owned by Charlotte Martin, who has under her protection a brood of fallen angels who luxuriate in the name of “Shoo Flies.” The fire started in the stove pipe in the parlor. The water thrown into the building seems to have done more harm than the fire. The doves who had not attended to their morning plumage, appeared considerably soiled.

In brief: At Washoe Lake there are now millions of catfish and perch. They would be fit for table use for a year.
There will be a moonlight excursion to Lake Bigler with band accompanied by Lyman Frisbie.

Highwaymen do business: They hold up men and are applying their nefarious trade in this vicinity. Harry Pelle was confronted by two highway men who went through his pockets and took $90.

Hoppers: Swarms of grasshoppers have invaded the upper Reese River valley. They have destroyed much pasture and hay crops. The farmers have been fighting the pests the past couple of weeks… same for Pahrump valley, Southern Nevada where hoppers have taken the crop.

Cat litter mine: A protest was staged by the American Indians against a Chicago based company to open a clay mine and kitty litter plant in Reno. Members of the tribe strongly oppose the project and said the plant would subject them to noise, dust and disturb their ancestors’ graves.

All sorts: The Virginia stage horses fell into the Slough of Despond, the houses in the upper part of town were left minus their water. There was a great cry raised and a consequent run on Walker & Bettinger’s bar by the temperate ones, for his Good Templar, whiskey. Count Sweeney fixed the pipe and all is well.
The jewels of the high muck-a-muck of the Red Men, Col. Abe Curry, manufactured by Charley Friend of gold, will be worn by the Colonel.

Eilley Orrum: Mrs. Sandy Bowers, the “Washoe Seeress,” has returned to Reno broken in health and purse. It seems it will only be a short time until the final summons will come.

Grand theater: “The Gile of Women,” with Will Rogers will be held at the Grand theater in a motion picture. Will Rogers in his Swedish characterization of a sailor is so different from the cowboy stunts that it will be hard for many to realize that he is an actor and a cow puncher.

Bluelight special: Super Kmart in Carson City offer shoppers who have a few items and are weary of standing in line, the automated check-out. The K-Mart chain is using these in 600 stores.
