Hosts Pacific Southwest regional tournament this month

Fallon’s 13-under team, which won the state tournament this month, will host the regional next week with the winner advancing to the Babe Ruth World Series. The Babe Ruth Pacific Southwest Regional Tournament returns to the Lahontan Valley for the first time in more than a decade when Fallon will host the 13-under tournament July 26-31.

The double-elimination tournament features 10 teams from Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California and Hawaii that will battle for a berth in next month’s World Series. Fallon, the designated host, won last week’s state tournament over South Reno, which will represent Nevada.

Teams will check in on Sunday and engage in a team pin trading event followed by dinner at the convention center and a skills challenge at the Babe Ruth field on Sheckler Road. Opening ceremonies are July 26 at 8:30 a.m. and will include a team parade, Mayor Ken Tedford and ex-Greenwave and NFL star Josh Mauga throwing out the first pitch.

Games begin at 10 a.m. and will follow a four-game-a-day schedule until Friday. Three games highlight Friday’s action followed by the championship on Saturday.

All games will be played during the day at Churchill County High School, which has no lights. Admission will be $5 adults and children above 12, and $3 for seniors and children under 12.
Fallon will host Hawaii’s No. 1 team, the Elite Warriors, on July 26 at 6 p.m. Hawaii’s No. 2 team, Hawaii Kai, will face Central California at 10 a.m. on July 26. Northern California (Tri-Valley) and North Utah (Vernal) play at 12:30 p.m. followed by Southern California and Arizona (Yuma) at 3:30 p.m.

South Reno and South Utah (Lone Peak) will open the tournament on July 26 with South Reno facing the North Utah-Nor Cal winner and South Utah awaiting the winner of Fallon-Hawaii Elite Warriors. The championship quarterfinals are July 28 and the semifinal is July 29. The consolation bracket starts on July 27.
