The Western States Traffic Safety Coalition is joining forces June 25-27 to crack down on speeding across 12 states.
A Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman said during the pandemic, people drove less often and less far. But she said driving patterns changed dramatically with people driving faster and more recklessly. There was a surge in vehicles traveling 100 mph or more. The result was a sharp rise in roadway deaths resulting from excessive speed.
The campaign will begin Friday, June 25 and run through the weekend ahead of the July 4 holiday in an effort to bring attention to the problem and get people to slow down.
The enforcement effort will involve state traffic enforcement not only from Nevada but Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
In addition to speeders, NHP Trooper Hannah DeGoey said officers will be on the lookout for impaired driving, aggressive and distracted driving as well as failure to wear seatbelts.
