Summer-like temperatures will hover over the Lahontan Valley this week summer-like high pressure builds over the region.

The Bureau of Land Management in Nevada is asking for your help to prevent human-caused fires. The 2021 Fire Prevention Order prohibits specific fire-related activities on BLM Nevada managed public lands to Oct. 31. The Fire Prevention Order makes it illegal to burn explosive material or use exploding targets, fireworks or steel component ammunition.

“Currently, Nevada is experiencing record dry conditions, with much of the state in a severe drought,” said Paul Petersen, BLM Nevada Fire Management officer.
“The current national wildland fire potential outlook indicates that we could be in for a challenge this summer,” Petersen said. “It’s important for the public to understand and comply with the fire prevention order to help keep human-caused wildfires from needlessly damaging natural and cultural resources.”

Any person who knowingly and willfully performs any act restricted by the Fire Prevention Order could be subject to a fine and held responsible for fire suppression and/or rehabilitation costs.

Check with your local, federal, and state agencies for additional fire prohibitions and restrictions.

Southern Nevada District has additional fire restrictions in place prohibiting building/or using campfires, charcoal barbecues or stove fires; prohibiting welding or operating an acetylene torch with open flames; and smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle.
