The Carson City Senior Citizens Center has helped boost vaccination numbers by hosting a weekly vaccination clinic for 450 people throughout March and April in partnership with Smith’s Food & Drug and Immunize Nevada, vaccinating just over 100 people each week.
"It began as an attempt to help seniors who didn't have access to a computer to get their COVID-19 shot," said Courtney Warner, CCSCC executive director. "We knew many of our population was going to have a hard time getting online to make an appointment. For others transportation would be an issue. I wanted to make it easier for them."
That’s when an opportune connection occurred and a partnership with Immunize Nevada and Smith’s Food & Drug happened to coordinate a vaccine clinic. Next RSVP and Jump Around Carson volunteered to offer door to door transportation to get seniors to their vaccine appointments.
"It truly takes a village and we are forever grateful for our partners. Thank you, Immunize Nevada, Smith’s Food & Drug, RSVP, JAC, Carson City Health & Human Services and our many wonderful volunteers for their assistance in this effort," Warner said. "It feels good to be able to help so many people get their shot and the peace of mind that comes with it."
If you, or anyone you know, needs a COVID-19 shot in the Quad County area, contact the hotline at (775) 434-1988.
