The Nevada Department of Employment, Training & Rehabilitation is requiring all new applicants for regular unemployment claims to verify their identity through ID.me.
The rule applies to all regular unemployment claims filed after April 18.
Employment Security Division Administrator Lynda Parven said ID.me is being used by more than 25 states to verify the identity of claimants for not only unemployment but Veterans Affairs, Social Security, and Treasury as well as retail and service organizations. She said the new security measure was mandated in the Continued Assistance Act of 2020 to reduce fraudulent claims.
The automated online process is available 24/7. But those unable to use online verification on a computer or smart phone can verify their identity by phone. For Northern Nevada, the number is 775-684-0350.
Rural and out-of-state claimants can call 888-890-8211. The call centers operate 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. A spokesman said it’s best to call Wednesday through Friday as Monday and Tuesday experience the highest volume of calls.
Claimants who have already verified ID should be able to log in to ID.me through the UI portal and allow ID.me to share information with DETR. Once DETR verifies their identity, claimants will be returned to UI.NV.GOV and be able to file claims.
