The bill designed to make it easier for people to get their unclaimed property has been signed by Gov. Steve Sisolak.
SB71 was drafted by Treasurer Zach Conine after a successful pilot program started at the beginning of the pandemic. That program allowed the treasurer’s office to proactively return unclaimed property to people who filed for unemployment benefits.
In the past year, the treasurer and the Employment Security Division have returned more than $2.3 million to people impacted by the pandemic.
SB71 will allow the treasurer’s office to initiate claims on behalf of property owners.
Conine said the law will allow his office to return more money to people who need it most.
Sisolak said the bill will go a long way toward making sure Nevadans can more easily receive their property.
