Greenwave girls 4th in 3A swim regional, boys take 7th

CARSON CITY – The Greenwave swim team finished fourth in the girls division of the Northern 3A regional meet at the Carson Aquatic Center on Saturday.

Fallon totaled 131 points to finish behind team champion Truckee, which amassed 460 points. Damonte Ranch finished second with 319 followed by South Tahoe with 227.


Fallon’s boys team finished seventh with 97 points as Truckee also took home the boys division with 420 points over Sage Ridge, which finished second with 203.


The regional was the first meet where official times were recorded.

The 200-yard medley relay team of seniors Hannah Rochna and Emily Giovanetti, junior Kamiah Henning and sophomore Evelyn O’Neill finished third with a time of 2 minutes, 13.27 seconds. The 200 freestyle relay team of the same four swimmers also finished third in 1:58.28.


Sophomore Nora Voelkel finished fourth in the 200 freestyle at 2:35.33, almost 2 seconds shorter than her preliminary run, while O’Neill took eighth in the 200 individual medley at 2:49.30.


Giovanetti shaved 0.90 seconds off her first time to finish fifth in the 100 breaststroke at 1:21.33, coming less than a second from third. She also cut 2.35 seconds off her first time to finish sixth in the 100 butterfly at 1:10.63.


Rochna improved by almost 2 seconds in the 100 backstroke to finish fifth at 1:11.99.


For the boys, the 200 freestyle relay team of freshmen Zachary Koenig, Kent Hansen and Macray O’Neilll and sophomore Jose Ruiz finished fourth in 1:52.35, coming 0.34 seconds from third. The 400 freestyle relay team of O’Neill, Ruiz, Koenig and freshman Jaiden McFadden finished fifth in 4:17.14.


Koenig finished third in the 100 backstroke at 1:08.18, a full second better than the preliminary swim, and seventh in the 50 freestyle, cutting down his preliminary time by half a second to 25.99. O’Neill finished 0.37 seconds quicker in the 100 freestyle to take eighth at 1:02.70.


Lone boys senior Kaden Grimes did not compete due to a family emergency.
