Twice per year, Partnership Carson City hosts the Drug Round-up as an effort to grow a healthy community by promoting the safe and proper disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs. The upcoming Drug Round-up takes place Saturday, Oct. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at four locations in Carson City:
• Save Mart Supermarkets, 3620 N. Carson St. and 4348 S. Carson St.
• Smith’s Food & Drug Store, 559 E. William St.
• FoodMaxx, 3325 Highway 50 East
“Keeping medicines after they’re no longer needed around the house can create serious health risks,” said Hannah McDonald, executive director of Partnership Carson City. “Our Drug Round-ups are designed to educate our community about these risks and to help prevent drugs getting into the wrong hands.”
Removing outdated medications protects vulnerable populations in the community. The Drug Round-up educates the community about the benefits of proper disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, prescription liquids, pet medications, syringes and more. The effort is part of the federal drug round-up initiative.
Bring syringes in a sealed, hard plastic bag or tin container. Pills should be brought in a bottle or plastic bag.
At-home drug disposal kits are also available. The kits provide an option for proper disposal at home and are safe for trash disposal. In addition, medicine lock boxes are available as well as medical and commercial cannabis lock bags — both offered free of charge.
