The Churchill County School District announced last week that students in grades K-8 wearing a face covering inside buildings is advisable, but face coverings are still mandatory on school transportation.
According to Superintendent Dr. Summer Stephens, Churchill County High School, though, is still considered an outbreak school and because of that designation, face coverings are still required. The school district will revisit the face covering requirement near the end of the month.
All staff members, however, are still required to wear face coverings inside the buildings.
At the last school board meeting and in Friday’s newsletter to parents, Stephens clarified the state’s exclusion rule with the Nevada Health and Human Services:
“The 10 day exclusion rule (see the health protocols here for more details) begins AFTER the student is no longer exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual. This means that if there are members of the household that continue to be exposed due to normal living arrangements, those members’ 10 days begin after the initial person with the virus has been quarantined for 10 days. DHHS will put more clarity into their document that some people have been pulling up online.”
For the past month, Stephens said COVID-19 cases have been decreasing in the schools.
